Some of these views featured on the Lake District Best Views Lap Map require a walk. Conditions in the Lake District can be unpredictable, to say the least. Here are some general tips to help you prepare in order to get the most out of your trip to the Lakes.
Wear Walking Boots
Many of the paths covered in the Lap Map are rough and steep in places, meaning outdoor footwear with a good grip is essential to help avoid slips and falls. Most paths also have sections which are wet, muddy and slippery.
Take a Waterproof and Spare Clothing
Weather conditions are often much colder and windier on the higher routes such as Helvellyn.
Take A Map
A detailed map and compass is essential to avoid getting lost (eg Ordnance Survery’s Explorer map). Do not rely on your phone for directions as reception can be patchy in some areas, and you need a backup in case your battery runs out.
Check Forecasts
Weather conditions can change quickly in mountainous areas like the Lake District. The weather can also be very different on higher ground, so check the forecast before you set off to make sure you’re suitably equipped. Always be prepared to turn back.
In an Emergency
If you do get into difficulty, call the Mountain Rescue by dialling 999 or 112 and ask for police and then mountain rescue.
